The studio

A builder you can sit across the table from.

Summerland is a Sydney builder with two convictions. That a home is the most personal thing a family will ever commission, and that the person who signs the contract should be the person who walks the frame with you. From the Hills District to the Northern Beaches, our houses are drawn with the people who will live in them, and the same hands stay on the job from the first survey peg to the day the keys change over.

We start with the land and the light, and we let both have their say. The plan comes from walking the block in the afternoon, seeing where the sun falls and where the street goes quiet, and setting the rooms so the house does its work for you all day. Materials are chosen for reasons we can point to. Spotted gum for the battens, because it belongs to the street it faces. Stone where the light lands. Hardwood where your feet do.

The part of the build you will never see gets the same pride as the part you will. The waterproofing behind the stone, the fixing behind the wall, the joint that lines up when nobody would have checked. It is the quietest work we do, and the reason families come back to us for the next build.

The essentials line carries the same care into a brighter brief. Homes drawn around what government support can unlock for a first buyer, built by the same crew and held to the same standard. It is not a smaller ambition. It is a different morning.

If this sounds like your kind of builder, we would like to hear about your block.
